South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem said she would support former President Trump if he ran again for president in 2024, adding that she's focused on serving as governor.

Noem, a former member of the House of Representatives, was asked if she would support Trump if he ran again and if she's planning to run for president herself in the future.

"Yes, I would support President Trump again in the future," Noem said during a discussion organized by the Hoover Institution on Thursday. "I campaigned for him in 17 different states, because I knew what would happen if President Biden had the opportunity to take over the White House, and how fundamentally this country would change. I didn't know he would wreck the country this fast.

"That was remarkable to watch how quickly he has devastated us, but President Trump, I loved working with him because he was one of the very few people that I worked with in public office that actually did what he said he was going to do."

Noem said Trump "followed through" on campaign promises during his tenure in office.

"He was a problem solver, and with the political climate that we have today, we need fighters, so I would support him," she said. "And I think that really we need a leadership change in this country. I am solely focused on being the governor of South Dakota.

"I ran for governor because I love this state, and I want it to be here with my people. So I just want to be able to go to bed every night knowing that I did my job protecting this country and did all that I could to give my kids and my grandkids an opportunity to grow up like I did. I do not want to end my life thinking I got selfish and didn't do my part. And so that's what I'm focused on each and every day."
