Pentagon spokesman John Kirby will move from his current role to a new one at the White House, where he will take on a senior communications role, according to a report in the Washington Post.
The jump to the White House comes days after Karine Jean-Pierre assumed the role of White House press secretary from Jen Psaki, who left her job las week. The day after President Joe Biden offered the press secretary job to Jean-Pierre, Kirby had a meeting with the president at the White House.
The specifics of Kirby's new role have yet to be publicly defined, though it is rumored to be the case that he will make regular appearances a daily press briefings. Others, according to the Post, say that Kirby's responsibilities will not overlap with Jean-Pierre's.
Kirby has served in his current role as the top spokesperson for the Department of Defense since the beginning of the Biden administration. White House officials have reportedly been impressed by Kirby's briefings since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
