Interior Secretary Deb Haaland broke her leg Sunday while hiking at the Shenandoah National Park.

“An evaluation this morning confirmed a break to her left fibula,” the Interior Department said Monday. “She is grateful to Park staff, the U.S. Park Police, and the team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for their excellent care.”

The statement did elaborate on the severity of the injury nor how long she'll need to recover. However, the average healing time for a typical fibula break can be six weeks to three months.

The fibula is also known as the calf bone, which is parallel to the shin bone on the leg.

Haaland is the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary. She continued to work virtually on Monday despite her injury.
