A vehicle crashed into the outer gate of the White House, and the driver was discovered deceased, but there was no threat to the president, the Secret Service said Sunday.

The crash occurred late Saturday evening when a "vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed collided with an outer perimeter gate on the White House complex," Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said

The D.C. Police Department identified the driver as an "adult male" who was pronounced dead on the scene.

It is unclear whether the driver died as a direct result of injuries sustained in the crash. The Washington Metropolitan Police Department Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the fatality, while the Secret Service is conducting its own investigation, Guglielmi said.
