White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain is expected to resign from his post in the coming weeks, with the exit likely after President Biden's State of the Union address early next month.

The move will also come amid a reset for the Biden White House team – at the midway point of the first term and as it prepares for a possible 2024 reelection effort, according to NBC News, based on information from two sources familiar with the decision.

Klain also was a key adviser to Biden during his 2020 campaign. His departure was expected, with top administration officials often departing at the halfway mark for the first term.

Klain would leave amid intense media interest – and Republican finger-pointing – about classified documents found at a former Biden office in Washington, D.C., and at the president's Delaware home, and as House Republicans crank up Biden administration probes.
