Federal officials have confirmed that the person charged with breaking into the campaign office of Arizona Democrat governor nominee Katie Hobbs is "at-large" for immigration violations after he was released on bond before a detainer could be issued for his potential removal.

Daniel Mota Dos Reis, 36, came to the U.S. in 2018 as a student from Portugal and is "currently at-large for administrative immigration violations for failing to maintain his status as a registered student at an academic institution," Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe said Wednesday, according to Arizona's 12 News.

Mota, who is reportedly homeless and was previously convicted of assault and shoplifting, was arrested last week for charges including burglary and trespassing. He was released on bond before ICE could issue an immigration detainer for his potential removal, officials said.

The break-in occurred Oct. 25 at a Hobbs Phoenix campaign office. Dos Reis is charged with third-degree burglary in connection with the incident.
