National Fraternal Order of Police calls Lebron James' tweet about Ohio police officer 'disgraceful'

The National Fraternal Order of Police has issued a critical response to NBA star LeBron James' threatening comment about the Ohio police officer who fatally shot a female teen brandishing a knife, saying his "you're next" tweet was "disgraceful" and "extremely reckless."

"@KingJames with his vast resources & influence, should educate himself and, frankly, has a responsibility to do so, on the facts before weighing in. This is disgraceful & extremely reckless," the group tweeted Wednesday. "The officer saved a young girl's life. No amount of gaslighting will change that fact."

The incident occurred Tuesday when an officer in the city of Columbus responding to a call about a domestic disturbance arrived at a home to find a melee in which the victim appeared poised to stab another female teen. The officer warned the teen, a black female to "get down," then fired several shots, his bodycam video appears to show.

The incident occurred the same day ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder in the May 2020 death of George Floyd.

In the now-deleted tweet, James, an Ohio native, posted a picture of the officer involved with text: "you're next #ACCOUNTABILITY."
