Police: Break-in suspect left severed finger behind after altercation with homeowner
Police in North Carolina say they identified a home invasion suspect after they discovered a severed finger he left at the scene of the crime.
Law enforcement in Burlington, N.C., said Vernon Wilson is accused of attempting to force his way into a local resident's home, during which the homeowner narrowly avoided being seriously hurt by a bullet discharged from the invader's gun.
While struggling to keep the assailant out of his home, the homeowner allegedly closed the door on the perp's hand, severing his finger in the process; police found the chopped digit while responding to the incident.
Wilson has been charged with multiple crimes including first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
The homeowner reported his chest having been grazed by the bullet discharged during the attack.
