Celebrated “Rick and Morty” creator Justin Roiland is facing felony domestic violence charges, according to a criminal complaint publicized this week.

The charges, obtained by NPR and other outlets, claim the 42-year-old Roiland committed “domestic battery with corporal injury” and “false imprisonment” against a woman with whom he was “in a dating relationship.”

Both charges allege the incidents occurred in January of 2020.

NPR reported that “pretrial hearings” have recently occurred in the case.

The cartoonist “was arrested and released on a $50,000 bond in August 2020 and arraigned in October of that year,” the outlet reported.
