A Texas man this week pleaded guilty to a massive list of federal hate crime charges, receiving nearly 100 life sentences for his having committed a mass shooting in El Paso in 2019.

Patrick Crusius "has agreed to accept 90 consecutive life sentences, one for each count in the indictment" brought against him for the shooting at an El Paso Walmart on Aug. 3, 2019, the Justice Department said this week in a news release.

The guilty plea "included 23 counts for hate crime acts" that resulted in the same number of deaths, the release stated.

Crusius is "a self-described white nationalist," the DOJ said, and the shooting he carried out was meant to target "people perceived to be Hispanic immigrants."

In a manifesto Crusius self-published just prior to the attack, he "admitted to selecting El Paso, a border city, as his target to dissuade Mexican and other Hispanic immigrants from coming to the United States."

The sentencing date is not yet set, the DOJ said.
