Law enforcement rope off a crime scene

Three Los Angeles police officers were shot and the suspect was pronounced deceased after a confrontation, officials said.

The altercation occurred Wednesday afternoon when officers were searching for an at-large parolee, whom they found barricaded, Los Angeles police communications officials said on Twitter

When the suspect did not comply with orders to surrender, K9 officers were called to the scene, law enforcement stated. The suspect still refused to comply, so the K9 officers deployed chemical agents.

"Upon deploying the chemical agent, the suspect began firing at officers and struck (3) Metropolitan K9 officers, the officers returned fire. Officers were transported to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition with serious injuries," Los Angeles police said.

The SWAT team responded to the scene, and upon a second search for the suspect, officers found him unresponsive. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel provided medical treatment to the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The suspect's identity was not immediately clear.
