Days after becoming Twitter 's largest shareholder, Elon Musk publicly muses: 'Is Twitter dying?'
Elon Musk on Saturday openly mused about whether or not Twitter—a major social media company of which he recently became the largest single shareholder—is "dying" due to its apparently low popularity among major celebrities.
Referring to a list of the top 10 most-followed accounts on the social media site, Musk wrote on Twitter: "Most of these 'top' accounts tweet rarely and post very little content. Is Twitter dying?"
Referring to two celebrities on that list, Musk noted: For example, [Taylor Swift] hasn’t posted anything in 3 months," while Justin Bieber has "only posted once this entire year."
The remarks come shortly after Musk bought up a major share in the company, nabbing just under 10% of Twitter's total shares in a move reportedly costing about $3 billion.
The business magnate, who stands atop the list of world's richest people, has in the past criticized Twitter for what he argues has been an insufficient commitment to free speech on the platform.
