General Motors investing $6.5 billion in electric vehicle plants in Michigan
Motor giant slated to add 4,000 domestic jobs.
Auto company General Motors is expected next week to announce a $6.5 billion investment in electric vehicle plants in Michigan, a move that will reportedly bring roughly 4,000 jobs to the state.
The longtime car manufacturer is reportedly poised to pour about $2 billion into a plant in the Lansing area and $4 billion into retrofitting a plant in Orion Township to build electric cars.
The state legislature was hammering out an incentives package this week that also is expected to be rolled out next week.
Founded in Michigan in 1908, General Motors has long been a major player in U.S., gas-powered vehicle manufacturing, for many decades being the largest car maker in the world.
