US economy adds 187,000 jobs in July, unemployment rate falls to 3.5%, report

The U.S. economy added 187,000 new jobs in July while the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%, according to a Friday report from the  Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Economists were expecting job gains to reach 200,000 with the unemployment remaining staying at 3.6%, according to Yahoo Finance

Some of the job gains occurred in trade, healthcare and social assistance.

Economists predicted that wages would rise 0.3% over last month and 4.2% over last year.

Job gains in July were the least since December 2020.
