Long Island sees swarm of shark bites in less than a month
Nearly half a dozen bites reported to have occurred in less than two weeks.
Reported shark bites have skyrocketed at Long Island in recent weeks, with nearly half a dozen swimmers allegedly having been bitten by predators in the water there since the start of the month.
The latest reported bite came at Fire Island’s Seaview Beach, where an Arizona man was alleged to have been bitten on the leg while standing in waist-deep water.
That bite came just several hours after another reported bite at Smith Point Beach, about 15 miles up Fire Island as the crow flies.
Suffolk County authorities closed Smith Point Beach following the earlier bite. It is unclear if Seaview Beach was closed after the attack.
No fatalities have been reported in the recent spate of shark attacks.
