An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother are dead and several people are injured after a suspected drunk driver crashed her vehicle into a child's birthday party, Michigan officials said.

A 66-year-old woman drove 25 feet into the Swan Creek Boat Club around 3 p.m. on Saturday in Berlin Township, located about 30 miles outside of Detroit, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

First responders provided first aid to about 15 people, including adults and young children, after arriving on the scene.

The two deceased victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while three children and six adults with serious injuries were transported to local hospitals via ambulance and helicopters, officials said. Other people went to the hospitals by private vehicles.

The driver, who has not been identified publicly, was arrested.

"The scene was described as 'extremely chaotic,' with high levels of emotion by those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident," the sheriff's department said.
