Blue Origin rocket explodes after liftoff, none injured

A rocket launched by Jeff Bezos's space company, Blue Origin, exploded shortly after liftoff on Monday.

No individuals were aboard the rocket and the capsule containing the experiments was recovered after parachuting to safety, according to the Associated Press.

"It appears we've experienced an anomaly with today's flight," the launch commentary said. "This wasn't planned."

The company attributed the crash to "booster failure."

Launching from West Texas, the New Shepard's emergency abort system separated the experimental capsule from the main rocket within a minute of takeoff, per the outlet.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it would conduct an investigation into the mishap.

"Before the New Shepard vehicle can return to flight, the FAA will determine whether any system, process, or procedure related to the mishap affected public safety," the FAA said, according to USA Today. "This is standard practice for all mishap investigations."
