Virginia's AG-elect Miyares says he will launch probe into Loudoun County school sexual assaults

Virginia's Attorney General-elect Jason Miyares announced Thursday that he will launch a probe into the sexual assault allegations that occurred at two Loudoun County high schools.

According to Newsmax, Miyares hopes to change state law and step in when he feels local officials haven't adequately addressed certain situations.

Last week Miyares applauded five former attorneys general who called on current AG Mark Herring to investigate the Loudoun County school district.

Miyares also expressed concerns that current law allows "school systems not to report sexual assaults."

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department, a 14-year-old male student allegedly sexually assaulted two female students at two separate high schools between May 28 and Oct. 6. 

The alleged assaults became flashpoints in the Virginia gubernatorial election.
