'It's troubling how politicized our justice system has become': Trump spokesperson
Mark Pomerantz, the ex-New York prosecutor who accused former President Donald Trump of being "guilty of numerous felony violations," is a radical leftist attorney who pursued Trump for political reasons, Liz Harrington, spokesperson for former President Donald Trump, said in a press release.
Pomerantz helped lead the Manhattan District Attorney's probe into Trump and his company, but he resigned late last month along with fellow lead prosecutor Carey R. Dunne after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicated he had doubts about the case.
The New York Times published Pomerantz's resignation letter on Wednesday. He cited his belief that "Trump is guilty of numerous felony violations" and that Bragg was not moving forward with the case.
Pomerantz, who took leave from the New York law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison to join the Trump investigation, is a "Radical Left lawyer who works with Chuck Schumer’s brother at a Democrat law firm," Harrington said.
"It’s troubling how politicized our justice system has become, where Democrats are loaned out to gin up crimes against their political opponents," she said, insisting Trump did nothing wrong and the charges were "phony."
"New York should get back to solving their skyrocketing crime problem, rather than spending so much time and energy on partisan witch hunts," she said, in reference to New York City's rising crime rate, which increased by nearly 60% in February 2022 compared to one year prior.
"On top of everything else, [Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison] represents the DNC, Democrats, and is [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton’s law firm," she wrote.
"This is disgraceful behavior and how somebody like that and others from his firm can be let loose to become prosecutors of a great Republican President is disgraceful. So bad, in fact, that professional prosecutors resigned in protest of this presidential persecution. They thought it was very unfair," she said.
"Will this Radical Left law firm be held legally accountable for what they have done?" Harrington concluded.
In good news for the former president, Pomerantz noted in his letter that the investigation against Trump has been "suspended indefinitely."
