Trump blames GOP's underwhelming midterms results on candidates' abortion stance

Former President Trump is arguing the GOP under-performed in the 2022 midterms because of its candidates' stance on abortion – amid arguments from party leaders and others that unqualified Trump-backed Senate candidates cost Republicans the upper chamber.

"It wasn’t my fault that the Republicans didn’t live up to expectations in the MidTerms," Trump posted Sunday on the Truth Social platform. "It was the 'abortion issue' poorly handled by many Republicans, especially those that firmly insisted on No Exceptions, even in the case of Rape, Incest, or Life of the Mother, that lost large numbers of Voters."

He also said his win-loss record for endorsed midterm candidates was 233-to-20.

The GOP won control of the House but only by a handful of seats, not by the predicted, so-called "wave" for a political party that typically comes after the opposing party's first two years running the White House.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has been critical of the candidates Trump backed for the Senate.

"Plus, Mitch stupid $'s!," Trump also posted on the social media site.
