Trump hits Romney, pushes Stefanik as Cheney replacement and endorses Dan Patrick
Former President Trump, who has been prohibited from disseminating his messages on major platforms like Twitter and Facebook, released several statements on Monday, including one blasting GOP Sen. Mitt Romney, another endorsing Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and another expressing his support for Rep. Elise Stefanik to replace Rep. Liz Cheney as House Republican conference chair.
"After being loudly booed at the Utah Republican Party Convention, Utah's Weber County censured RINO Mitt Romney in the strongest of terms. Washington County Republicans also censured Romney in April. He is BAD NEWS for our Country!" Trump declared in the statement.
Romney voted to convict earlier this year after the House voted to impeach Trump in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. While the House vote occurred shortly before Trump left office, the Senate vote took place after Trump was already out of office. After the House in 2019 voted to impeach Trump, Romney in 2020 voted to convict Trump on one of the two articles of impeachment.
Trump on Monday also offered a full-throated endorsement of the Lone Star State's Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.
"Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is a great fighter for the people of Texas. He has stood up for up for Life, Liberty, the Second Amendment, Border Security, our Military and our Vets, and our God-given Freedoms. He has governed by conservative principles of LOW TAXES and careful spending, always doing what is best for his great State and for America. Texans should re-elect him! He is outstanding and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!" Trump said in the statement.
In another statement on Monday, Trump continued to back Rep. Elise Stefanik to replace Rep. Liz Cheney as House Republican Conference Chair.
"The House GOP has a massive opportunity to upgrade this week from warmonger Liz Cheney to gifted communicator Elise Stefanik. Elise has intelligence, an endorsement from American Patriot Brandon Judd and the National Border Patrol Council, she has an A+ from the NRA, and she loves our Veterans. We need someone in Leadership who has experience flipping districts from Blue to Red as we approach the important 2022 midterms, and that's Elise! She knows how to win, which is what we need!"
Cheney, an outspoken critic of Trump's claim that the 2020 election contest was tainted by fraud, was one of 10 House Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching Trump earlier this year. She will likely be ousted from the House GOP leadership slot this week.
While Trump in the past heavily utilized Twitter to communicate with the public, the social media giant permanently suspended his account earlier this year.
Facebook's independent Oversight Board recently upheld that social media giant's suspension related to Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts, but took issue with the fact that the company had levied an indefinite suspension.
"The Board has upheld Facebook's decision on January 7, 2021, to restrict then-President Donald Trump's access to posting content on his Facebook page and Instagram account," the body explained.
"However, it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension," the board noted. "The Board insists that Facebook review this matter to determine and justify a proportionate response that is consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform."
