Former President Donald Trump spoke at a tele-rally in Virginia Monday attempting to energize voters ahead of Tuesday's gubernatorial.

"We need to restore common sense to the governor's mansion," Trump said during the phone-in rally in support of Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin.

Trump's involvement in the Virginia race comes as both Youngkin and former Gov. Terry McAuliffe are locked in a dead heat.

During the rally, Trump described Youngkin as a "fantastic guy" who is going to be "great at taxes and supporting your children's education."

Trump also blasted Youngkin's Democratic opponent, calling him a "poor governor" who wants to defund the police.

"Glenn's running against very shady Terry McAuliffe," Trump said. "I know him very well… he was not a successful governor. He's made a corrupt bargain with the radical left, the extremists who now control the Democratic party. He's completely owned and controlled by them."

At one point Trump addressed the current political tensions playing out at school boards across the state, saying McAuliffe will only exacerbate the situation.

"He actually said I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should be teaching. Well, that means all of those school boards are listening to a lot of angry parents right now. And we don't want that; we want there to be harmony and peace," the former President noted.

At the end of the rally, Trump challenged voters to turn Virginia red by voting for the entire Republican ticket.

"The future of this great commonwealth is on the ballot tomorrow." he said. "Our country's hurting but we're going to take it back."
