The Justice Department said Friday a grand jury has indicted former Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro on contempt charges in connection with his failure to comply with a subpoena from the Democrat-led House committee on the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

The federal grand jury has indicted Navarro on two counts of contempt, according to the department.

The 72-year-old Navarro said earlier this week that FBI agents had served him with a subpoena demanding his testimony before the grand jury about his alleged part in attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

He said the subpoena also compelled him to comply with the committee's subpoena, to which he failed to respond, and has also resulted in the contempt of Congress charge. The charges follows the committee in April voting him in contempt for failing to respond to the subpoena request.
