President Joe Biden will likely make a final decision on whether to seek reelection in 2024 over the Christmas season, chief of staff Ron Klain said this week.

"When will the president make the decision?" he asked rhetorically. "I expect it shortly after the holidays. But I expect the decision will be to do it." Klain made the remarks at the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit on Monday, per the Washington Times. Biden previously indicated that he might make a formal announcement in early 2023.

Biden has repeatedly signaled that he intends to seek reelection but has stopped shy thus far of making any formal announcement. Former President Donald Trump is the only candidate in either major party to announce a 2024 campaign.

Following the Nov. 8 midterm elections, Biden said his "intention" is to seek reelection.

Biden is currently 80-years-old and both his age and lackluster approval ratings have often prompted speculation that he may face a primary challenge or decline to seek the Democratic nomination.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has been clear that he would seek the presidency should Biden opt against a 2024 campaign. Vice President Kamala Harris has also been routinely mentioned as a potential nominee.
