Clinton doubts Harris has instincts to win Democratic primary: report
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly voiced concerns that Vice President Kamala Harris does not have the necessary political acumen to win a party primary.
The New York Times cited anonymous Democrats who had conversed with Clinton, recalling her private opinions that Harris could not navigate a primary contest. A spokesperson for Clinton told the outlet that the pair enjoyed a close relationship and that the former first lady was supportive of the vice president.
Harris currently enjoys an overall favorability rating of 38% in the RealClearPolitics polling average. By contrast, 51.8% disapprove of her performance. The first woman to hold the post, Harris has struggled to establish a legacy for herself outside of that milestone.
The Biden administration previously tapped her to handle the ongoing migration surge at the southern border, though she has made little headway on that issue.
Harris dropped out relatively early in the 2020 Democratic primary and endorsed Biden. Much speculation has surrounded her future plans for higher office when Biden's term expires.
