Broadway goes dark for the rest of the year, as COVID drops the curtain on live theater

Broadway fans will have a long wait before they can once again attend live performances.

The Broadway League on Monday announced that shows in New York City have been cancelled for the remainder of 2020 as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shows were suspended in March. 

People who bought tickets for shows that were scheduled through January 3, 2021 can get a refund or exchange their tickets, according to a press release.

"Returning productions are currently projected to resume performances over a series of rolling dates in early 2021. Tickets for performances for next winter and spring are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks," the release says.

There have been more than 126,000 COVID-19 deaths so far in the U.S. and more than 2.5 million confirmed cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
