Democrats on Wednesday night offered positive reviews of President Biden's first speech before a joint session of Congress.

"Tonight’s speech was forceful, but clear-eyed, disciplined & determined. I was moved by the sense of history in the House chamber—reaffirming that democracy works after the abhorrent attack by rioters & the hardship & heartbreak of this past year," Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut tweeted.

Rep. Adam Schiff of California declared that "tonight was a home run."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a lawmaker from California, said in a statement that the president had given "a unifying message of resilience, resolve and hope."

"This was a speech to unify the country around a set of values and principles, and I think the American people will appreciate it. This was a speech that can bring the country and the two parties together – and there is so much we need to do," Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California tweeted.

Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona said that he did not hear the president offer a plan to contend with the crisis along the nation's southern border.

"While I share President Biden's urgency in fixing our broken immigration system, what I didn't hear tonight was a plan to address the immediate crisis at the border, and I will continue holding this administration accountable to deliver the resources and staffing necessary for a humane, orderly process as we work to improve border security, support local economies, and fix our immigration system," Kelly said in a statement.
