Kari Lake wins Republican nomination for Arizona Senate, will face Democrat Gallego in fall

Republicans are hoping to flip the vulnerable Senate seat, after Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced she would not seek reelection.
Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake speaks during the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on March 4, 2023 in National Harbor, Maryland.

Republican Arizona Senate hopeful Kari Lake defeated former Pinal County sheriff Mark Lamb on Tuesday night, to secure the Republican nomination in that battleground state's primaries.

Lake will face Democratic nominee Rep. Ruben Gallego in November.

“Congratulations to Kari Lake on her commanding victory in tonight’s primary,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Steve Daines said. “Arizonans must unite to defeat Ruben Gallego, one of the most radical Democrats in the country.

”Ruben Gallego will work with Kamala Harris to abolish ICE, defund the police, and pass more reckless spending that will drive prices up. Kari Lake will work with President Trump to secure the border, get crime under control, and bring down prices.”

Lake, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump last year, was declared the winner while leading Lamb 53% to 40% with two thirds of the vote counted.

She previously ran for Arizona governor in 2022, but lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs.

Arizona is considered a swing state for the 2024 presidential election, where Trump will likely face Vice President Kamala Harris for the Oval Office.

Gallego ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
