Former presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke said Friday that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden needs to win Texas so it would be harder for President Trump to try to "invalidate" a close November loss.

O'Rourke predicted that a Biden win in Texas would be "seismic in its impact" so "there will be no question" about the national election results. The Texas Democrat explained why he thinks there isn't "any state more important right now than Texas" in the 2020 election.

"Should the outcome of the presidential election be close -- though Joe Biden will have lawfully won -- Donald Trump, who has shown no regard for the rule of law, the Constitution, who will do anything to hold onto or increase his purchase on power, will exploit the proximity of the finish to create chaos and confusion and seek to invalidate the results," O'Rourke said on a conference call organized by the Biden campaign.

"What's the answer to that? Texas," he emphasized. "We can turn the page and begin a new chapter."

The Real Clear Politics polling average has Trump up by 2.5 percent in Texas.

O'Rourke also pledged to work with Biden campaign volunteers to make "more than 15 million" calls to voters in the next four months to help Biden win the state.

"We've mailed 300,000 pre-filled voter registration forms and made 600,000 phone calls to follow up on them. Adding those net new voters and then talking to already registered Democratic voters and then turning all that info. over," O'Rourke said.

"So that, if come August, come October, the Biden campaign sees Texas is competitive and wants to go all the way in defeating Donald Trump here, becoming the first Democratic nominee since 1976 to win the 38 electoral college votes, this is plug and play. This state is ready to go," he also said.
