Biden delivers speech after exceeding 270 electoral votes in Electoral College voting

Joe Biden delivered a speech Monday night that was highly critical of President Trump's continuing effort to overturn the results of the Nov. 3 election, and included an appeal for the country "to unite, to heal."

Earlier in the day, all 50 states and the District of Columbia cast their Electoral College votes, and Biden received a total of 306 votes. while Trump received 232. A total of 270 electoral votes are required to secure victory in a presidential election.

"You know in this battle for the soul of America democracy prevailed," Biden said. "We the people voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact. And now it's time to turn the page as we've done throughout our history, to unite, to heal."

The Electoral College vote results will be counted during a Jan. 6 joint session of Congress presided over by Vice President Mike Pence.

President Trump has still not conceded in the 2020 presidential contest, which he says was tainted by fraud.
