Democrat Adrian Fontes wins AZ secretary of state race against Rep. Mark Finchem
The secretary of state race was won by the former Maricopa County recorder.
Democratic candidate Adrian Fontes has won the election for Arizona secretary of state over GOP state Rep. Mark Finchem.
The Associated Press called the election for Fontes on Friday night.
Fontes was the Maricopa County recorder from 2017 to 2021.
Since the state has no lieutenant governor position, the secretary of state in Arizona also serves as acting governor when the governor is out of state and is first in the gubernatorial line of succession.
