Trump-backed Cheney challenger raises $1 million since announcing bid in Sept. 2021, report

A top primary challenger to Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney has reportedly raised over $1 million in roughly the past four months in her bid to unseat the three-term incumbent.

As part of that fundraising effort, challenger Harriet Hageman raised roughly a quarter-million dollars since the start of 2022, according to FoxNews.com.

"I am standing for Wyoming First and America First values, which is something that Liz Cheney cannot and will not say," she told the news outlet.

Hageman, who is backed by former President Trump, says more than half of the campaign donations come from within Wyoming, which suggests voters, not special interest groups, want her to win.

Trump will reportedly head to the state in May to lead a rally for Hagemen, in her bid to win the state's only congressional seat. 

Cheney was among nine congressional Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

The vote led to her losing her post in GOP House leadership and being censured by the state Republican Party.

However, Trump had long been an outspoken critic of Cheney – having accused her before the impeachment vote of being a "warmonger." 

Cheney recently lost by a significant margin to Hageman in a Wyoming state central committee straw poll.

Despite's Hagemen's notable haul, Cheney, one of just two Republicans on the Democrat-led House committee investigating the riot, has so far raised roughly $4.5 million during the 2022 cycle.

Among those in the so-called GOP "establishment" helping her fundraise are Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, former House speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan and former President George W. Bush, whose vice president was Dick Cheney, the congresswoman's father.
