Former Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday that he and former President Trump differ on "focus" and that he believes elections are about the future.

Pence spoke hours ahead of Trump delivering his first speech in Washington, D.C., since leaving office.

Trump is set to speak at 3 p.m. Eastern Time at an America First Policy Institute summit.

Pence served under Trump in a relationship fractured by the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, where Pence presided over the Congress' certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

Trump and Pence are each considered top, potential 2024 GOP presidential candidates.

Pence delivered his remarks at the Young America's Foundation student conference. He took two questions from students in the audience. He was asked to elaborate on issues in which he differs with Trump, given that they are both speaking on the same day in Washington at different events.

"I don't know that the president and I differ on issues, but we may differ on focus," Pence said.

However, he also seemed to suggest, as he has before, that he disagrees with Trump that they lost the 2020 election over widespread election fraud.

"I truly do believe that elections are about the future and that it is absolutely essential at a time when so many Americans are hurting, so many families are struggling that we don't give way to the temptation to look back," Pence said. "But I think the time has come for us to offer a bold, positive agenda to bring America back. And I'll continue to carry that message all across this nation," he added.

Pence applauded the Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade, the decades-old high court decision that provide the constitutional right to abortion.

"We must not tire until we've restored the sanctity of life to the center of American law in every state in the nation," he said. "We save the babies, we will save America."
