Texas announces forensics audit of 2020 election results in four counties, following Trump's request
The office of Texas GOP Gov. Gregg Abbott late Thursday night said it would conduct a "comprehensive forensic audit" of the 2020 election results from four of the state's largest counties.
The announcement by Texas's Office of the Secretary of State came just hours after Trump, in an open letter to Abbott, asked the governor back a bill to launch an audit, though he won the state last year by over five percentage points.
"Despite my big win in Texas, I hear Texans want an election audit! You know your fellow Texans have big questions about the November 2020 Election," Trump wrote."Texas needs you to act now.
"Your Third Special Session is the perfect, and maybe last, opportunity to pass this audit bill. Texans know voting fraud occurred in some of their counties. Let's get to the bottom of the 2020 Presidential Election Scam!"
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced this summer that over 500 election fraud cases are pending in the state's courts.
