Trump supporter, Rep. Andy Biggs considering 2022 run for Arizona Senate seat

"I'm kicking the tires," Biggs said.

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, one of former President Donald Trump's most vocal supporters in Congress, is considering a bid for a Senate seat in his home state in 2022.

Biggs, who also leads the conservative House Freedom Caucus, told the The Hill newspaper on Monday that he is "seriously considering a run."

"I'm kicking the tires," he said. "We’re looking at it, talking to people, seeing what it would look like."

Biggs also said he's "trying to gauge how much support I might have."

Biggs's decision to explore a Senate bid follows Trump's vow Sunday to help candidates in races who had supported him.

Biggs is likely to run against Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, who won a special election in 2020 against former Sen. Martha McSally. The seat was also held by the late Sen. John McCain.

The Hill obtained recent internal polling conducted by Arizona-based Data Orbital saying Biggs had a sizable lead, 36.1%, in a poll of potential primary contenders. The next closest candidate, according to this poll, is Maj. Gen. Michael McGuire, the head of Arizona's National Guard, who received 2.6%.
