Brazil's Bolsonaro hospitalized in connection with injuries from 2018 knife attack

Though Bolsonaro has condemned the actions of his supporters, many Democrats have called on the Biden administration to extradite him from the United States amid the turmoil.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been hospitalized in connection with injuries he sustained during a 2018 assassination attempt.

The Brazilian politician entered an Orlando, Fla., hospital on Monday his wife confirmed, per CNN. The Bolsonaros have been staying in the Sunshine State since the conservative leader departed Brazil at the end of 2022.

He has previously been hospitalized for discomfort related to the injuries. Bolsonaro sustained knife wounds while initially seeking the presidency.

Bolsonaro narrowly lost reelection to socialist Luiz Inácio "Lula" da Silva. Though he declined to contest the election results, Bolsonaro's supporters have nonetheless proven unwilling to accept Lula's government, with many storming the Congress and Supreme Court over the weekend, demanding his ouster.

Though Bolsonaro has condemned the actions of his supporters, many Democrats have called on the Biden administration to extradite him from the United States amid the turmoil. Brazilian authorities had arrested hundreds of his supporters in relation to the unrest in Brazil as of Monday morning, though authorities estimate the figure has since swelled to at least 1,500, according to Fox News.
