GOP Sen. Grassley announces 'very successful' hip surgery

Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley on Wednesday announced that his hip surgery had been successful and that he was on track to recover after previously injuring his hip.

"My hip surgery today to repair a fracture was very successful. On my way to a full recovery," he tweeted. He had sustained an injury in an unspecified incident.

The 89-year-old senator is the upper chamber's longest serving Republican, having first assumed office in 1981. He won reelection to an eighth term in November 2022, easily defeating his Democratic challenger.
