Adam Kinzinger, GOP Rep who voted to impeach President Trump, joins CNN as commentator

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.)

Former Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger has joined CNN as a senior political commentator.

The ex-lawmaker became a Republican pariah after voting to impeach former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial. He subsequently joined former Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney as one of the two Republicans on the House select committee investigating the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Kinzinger's bellicose anti-Trump rhetoric earned him the ire of nearly every House Republican, including then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who dubbed him and Cheney "Pelosi Republicans" for agreeing to join the Jan. 6 committee after Pelosi had rejected two Members of Congress that McCarthy had picked.

The anti-Trump figure follows in the footsteps of other such politicians, including former Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich, who joined the network after his unsuccessful bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016.
