Marjorie Taylor Greene to lead House lawmakers in visit with Jan. 6 prisoners

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is reportedly working to schedule a trip for House lawmakers to visit those imprisoned for their alleged participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Greene has previously met with several incarcerated individuals, many of whom have complained of poor treatment at their detention facilities. The Georgia lawmaker indicated that such matters would take center stage during the visit.

"We're going to be addressing the human rights abuse, such as the fact that they've been held in solitary confinement up to 23 hours a day, denied the ability to see their families," she said, according to The Hill.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., is working with Greene to facilitate the visit. Comer's assistance will involve aid in drafting a letter to relevant officials to start the process of scheduling a visit.

Comer was unsure whether he himself will join the trip, saying "[w]e'll see what my schedule looks like."

"I will tell you, she started talking to people yesterday about it, and there are a lot of members that have expressed an interest in going with her to that prison – more than I would have first anticipated," he added.

News of the trip follows Fox New host Tucker Carlson's Monday evening airing of footage from the incident that appeared to show Jacob Chansley, aka the QAnon Shaman, being peacefully escorted by Capitol Police through the halls of the building.

Carlson acquired the footage after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy provided him with a trove of 41,000 hours of relevant recordings. The bevy of materials has caused many of the defendants to seek delays to their trials so as to access and review that footage, which may contain exculpatory evidence in many of their cases.
