Maxine Waters calls on FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to testify
House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters, D-Calif., on Friday announced her invitation of FTX founder Samuel Bankman-Fried to testify before Congress about the cryptocurrency firm's sudden collapse.
Bankman-Fried earlier this week appeared at the New York Times's DealBook summit in which he acknowledged his own failures and responsibility for the firm's fall.
Waters told Politico that "We want him here... If he’s talking and giving interviews, we’d like for him to be just as candid with us." Bankman-Fried has not yet agreed to an interview, but suggested he was open to appearing before Congress at the DealBook summit, saying he "would not be surprised if I’m up there talking about what happened to our representatives."
The cryptocurrency firm filed for bankruptcy in November, stunning the investing world. Reports have since emerged of missing assets and investor funds.
The Senate Banking Committee will likely hold its own hearing on FTX in December but has not yet set a date.
