Arizona county dumps elections chief following primary ballots debacle

Pinal County Recorder Virginia Ross has been appointed to replace elections chief David Frisk.

The elections director for Pinal County, Arizona, is no longer in his position following a string of misshaps during the Tuesday primary elections.

David Frisk, according to Ground News, is "no longer employed" by the county. County Recorder Virginia Ross has been appointed to replace Frisk.

The personnel shuffle follows ballot shortages that plagued the primary elections and enraged Republicans, who were already critical of the state's electoral process following heated disputes over the 2020 presidential election results.

Though traditionally a Republican stronghold, then-President Donald Trump narrowly lost Arizona to his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden. Fox News called the state race early while many ballots remained outstanding, prompting criticism from the Trump camp.

The state remained embroiled in controversy over its election results for months. Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, though a lightning rod for Republican criticism, managed to win her primary on Tuesday to become her party's nominee for governor in November.
