Nearly all Americans 'concerned' about food and consumer good prices: poll

A new poll shows that 95% of Americans are concerned about the price of food and consumer goods as the economy is a top issue for voters deciding who to support in the midterm elections.

Most Americans, 73%, say they are "very" concerned about the price of goods and foods while 22% say they are "somewhat" concerned, according to the Pew Research Center poll released Thursday.

Additionally, 93% of voters are concerned about the price of energy and 87% are concerned about the cost of housing, the poll showed.

While 79% of registered voters polled said the economy is a "very important" issue for their vote in the 2022 elections, more Republicans expressed concerns than Democrats at 92% to 65%.

Inflation is soaring in the United States and the latest consumer price index shows goods increased 8.3% over the past year.

However, with the midterm elections just over two weeks away, the poll shows that Republicans and Democrats are still neck and neck, with 41% of registered voters favoring Democrat candidates in their districts with 40% favoring Republicans.

The survey, which has a margin of error of 1.7%, was conducted from Oct. 10 to 16 with 5,098 registered voters.
