Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's national political director will leave the campaign this week to aid former President Donald Trump's bid to return to the White House.

Ramaswamy Communications Director Tricia McLaughlin confirmed Brian Swensen's departure from the campaign to Just the News, adding that "this was while a while in the works." Though Swensen was officially the national political director, his role had been focused almost entirely on New Hampshire for the past half-year, a shuffle McLaughlin said the campaign made because that was "where we thought he could make the best impact."

Mike Biundo, she added, joined the campaign roughly six weeks ago and "has largely absorbed a lot of Brian’s role." Biundo served as national campaign manager to Rick Santorum in 2012 and was a senior advisor to the 2016 Trump campaign.

Swensen's departure from the campaign was amicable, Mclaughlin said: "We love Brian and we just want what’s best for him in his life and in his career." She further was optimistic that the personnel change would not adversely impact Ramaswamy's prospects in the pivotal early primary state.
