Twitter suspends accounts that track Musk, SpaceX jets
Twitter has suspended two automated accounts that tracked CEO Elon Musk's private jet and planes belonging to his other company, SpaceX, multiple outlets have reported.
Account @ElonJet was suspended on Wednesday, operator Jack Sweeney announced via his personal account. It had roughly 494,600 followers at that time. Sweeney is a college student attending the University of Central Florida. He also announced that his account tracking the SpaceX jet had been suspended.
Sweeney's personal account received a suspension Wednesday afternoon, just hours later.
He maintains a verified account on former President Donald Trump's own platform, Truth Social. He continues to track Musk's private plane and those connected to former president Donald Trump in real-time through dedicated accounts on that platform.
Sweeney further shared a screenshot of Musk explaining on Twitter that "Real-time posting of someone else's location violates doxxing policy, but delayed posting of locations are ok."
The Tesla founder has consistently argued that the real-time tracking accounts constituted a safety risk, according to the Washington Times. He previously offered Sweeney $5,000 to stop tracking him, but the college student refused and instead demanded $50,000.
Sweeney also posted screenshots, ostensibly of internal Twitter communications, indicating that the @elonjet account had had its visibility restricted in early December. That allegation comes as Musk continues to release internal Twitter documents, via several journalists, detailing the platform's prior efforts to limit the reach of accounts that espoused disfavored viewpoints.
