Newsom tells beach-goers that coronavirus 'doesn’t take the weekends off'
Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted beach-goers, and called images of packed California beaches from over the weekend “an example of what not to do.”
During his daily media briefing Monday, California’s governor Gavin Newsom said that “this virus doesn’t take the weekends off, this virus doesn’t go home because it’s a beautiful, sunny day along our coast."
The warm weather drew throngs of people to the sand around Southern California. The governor last week urged beach-goers to practice physical distancing, however, many beach-goers did not follow the guidelines introduced by officials who have partially reopened some beaches.
The Newport Beach city council is now considering closing the beaches for the next three weekends or possibly blocking roads to the most popular destinations.
