Retired NYPD officer gets standing ovation as he leaves hospital after 61 days

A retired NYPD officer left a New York hospital to a fanfare of cheering and clapping doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff after a two month battle with the coronavirus.

Anthony Greco, 53, of Wantagh, Long Island was wheeled out of Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside.

Tony’s wife, Liz, thanked Mount Sinai South Nassau and credited the tremendous work of the critical care staff and Dr. Frank Coletta for saving her husband’s life.

She said her husband was on a ventilator twice and had to undergo surgery to remove damage to his lungs believed to be caused from the virus.

"Everybody worked very hard," Greco said. "It's nice to get out and see the world."

He said he can't wait to get home to see his kids.
