Southern California school district updated social studies curriculum to include gay rights

The Temecula Valley Unified School District in Southern California adopted an updated social studies curriculum, which incorporates gay rights material, after initially rejecting it due to parental involvement concerns. Following a $1.5 million fine imposed by Governor Gavin Newsom for a "willful violation of the law," the board approved the curriculum, including a textbook featuring gay rights and Harvey Milk's work, to the applause of supporters.
