Myanmar, Thailand get hit with a 7.7-magnitude earthquake, killing over 140 people

Myanmar and Thailand were hit with a 7.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday, leaving over 140 people dead and many trapped under a collapsed high-rise.

The number of casualties are expected to increase in both Myanmar and Thailand.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, was declared a disaster zone after the earthquake as many people live in high-rise apartments and had to evacuate. 

The military government in Myanmar declared a state of emergency, according to NBC News. 

“The state will make inquiries on the situation quickly and conduct rescue operations along with providing humanitarian aid,” the government said in a statement, Reuters reports.
