A train crash in India has killed 207 people and left roughly 900 injured.

The Friday incident saw two passenger trains collide with a freight train in the Odisha state city of Balasore, CNN reported. The cause remains unknown as of press time, though authorities have indicated that rescue activities remain ongoing.

"We are only working (at) sending additional doctors, ambulances, buses, so all those things we are doing so we have not thought of asking what happened, how it happened," State Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena told the local CNN affiliate.

 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in a post on Friday, saying he was "Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families."

"May the injured recover soon. Spoke to Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected," he concluded.
