Canadians re-elect Trudeau's Liberal Party

According to projections by the Canadian Press and Canada’s television networks, Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party was re-elected by the Canadian people. It is unclear whether his party gained an overall majority in the parliament.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party declared victory Monday night after a snap election was held in Canada.

According to the Associated Press, the Liberals are projected to win the most seats in Canada’s parliament, but early returns suggested his party might not win an overall majority.

The Liberals were leading in 148 ridings, the Conservatives in 103, the Quebec-based Bloc Québécois in 28 and the leftist New Democratic Party in 22.

Trudeau called the snap election as the country debated over policies such as vaccine mandates. The conservative leader Erin O’Toole didn’t require his candidates to be vaccinated and refused to say how many weren vaccinated.

This victory for Trudeau comes as Canada sees a surge in COVID-19 cases, specifically in the conservative province of Alberta which recently had to shut down again due to the pandemic.
